The Plot Twist of 2017
This is a completely true story. I've mentioned it before in Crushes: And My Terrible Luck With Them (Part Two) but here is the extended version of that story. This took place in the second semester of my sophomore year.
I officially met Al and became friends with him in the second semester of sophomore year. Before that I had seen him around but never really talked to him. Which of course is part of living in a small rural town. You see people, you know them, but you don't necessarily know them. The first time I saw him we were in middle school. He is a year older than me so when I saw him I was in, I think 7th grade and he was in 8th. I thought he was super cute. When I started High School I saw a bit more of him. I didn't have any classes with him but I saw him around in the hallways. He was in JROTC (basically military class) and he was in band (he plays the saxophone). In the second half of 10th grade I had a Culinary Arts class with him. The previous semester I had the class a different hour, but it got switched with something and I was very excited he was in my class because he's super cool and super cute. I mean, he wore a trench coat, (women's) leather boots, glasses, and was overall very attractive. I decided to be bold and actually talk to him because I figured if we became friends that was just one step closer to sliding into the girlfriend zone. That's not how it works by the way.
At the same time this was happening I had an all girls Aerobics class. Despite what some people seem to think about bisexual people, I don't just oggle girls in changing rooms. That's creepy. Plus, I was more concerned with no one seeing me. I usually changed in one of the shower areas so I was behind a curtain and then hightailed out of there. Anyway, in my Aerobics class there was this girl Liz. She was in my grade so I had seen her around before and she had previously dated a girl so I was like alright she's lesbian. That meant I had a shot! The amount of out people in a small rural town isn't high so my dating pool was small and the female part of my dating pool was even smaller. Liz was quiet, funny, and one day in class we were just standing and joking around when I realized she had freckles on her cheekbones and that was adorable. *Heart Palpitations so loud Australia can hear them*.
So anyway, I was torn. Al or Liz, Liz or Al. I couldn't choose, I liked them both so much. Who to pursue? At some point Al started talking about his girlfriend which saddened me but that meant Liz was clear for take off. Al was a great boyfriend, for Valentines day he bought his girlfriend chocolate covered strawberries, if she liked his shirt they would go into a bathroom and switch shirts so she could wear his comfortable shirt. He was romantic and sweet and definitely taken. As far as I knew, Liz was single. I
One day in Culinary Arts, Al was talking to Liz's cousin. I was concused about how friendly they seemed and she asked Al when he would visit her house again. At some point when it was just me and Al talking I finally asked who his girlfriend was. He said he was dating Liz. Alarm bells went off in my head but I asked him to clarify since there were more than one girl named Liz in the school. It was Liz. The very same Liz I thought was a single lesbian. I said "I thought she was lesbian" while in this kind of 'nooooo' state of mind. Al responded "I thought so too until she started making out with me". Alrighty TOO MUCH INFORMATION! I got punched in the face by a very big plot twist.
Evidently my Bi-Fi was broken. I had been so caught up in 'well she has dated a girl so she must be lesbian' that it didn't occur to me that she could also be bi. Shame on me. Bring forth the shame bucket to put over my head.
This is 100% a picture of me in real life.
So that is the story of possibly the biggest plot twist of 2017. Both my crushes were dating each other. #BisexualProblems. Now here is a song by David Bowie, a true icon.
Goodnight,
(Sleep well my readers)
